Short codes, are special telephone numbers, significantly shorter than full telephone numbers, which can also be used to address SMS messages from mobile phones. Types of Short Code:
There are two kinds of short codes, shared and dedicated. Dedicated short codes are dedicated for one customer

Shared (56767)	Dedicated (56767xx)
Shared ShortCode is used by many Brands	Dedicated Shortcode becomes unique Identity of Brand
The customer has to type Brand Name & then the service(Ex: ICICIBANK IBAL to 6767)	More user friendly as Customers need to only type the service without Brand name(Ex: IBAL to 676766 for balance enquiry of ICICI Bank)
Cost increases with every keyword	Unlimited keywords can be configured
Keyword availability may be restricted in case some other Brand is already used same keyword.	Keyword availability is not restricted
Message should always begin with Keyword; incase of mistake in typing the message will not be captured.	Any message can be captured even if not prefixed with Keyword(Ex: I need to know where can i drop cheque in city name XXXX)
